History of current plant starts back in 1985 when the state confectionery factory "Ruta" was expanding its capacities and built a new plant. In the autumn of 1993 after the state capital was privatised, AB "Naujoji Ruta" was established. Since the end of 2000 more than 90 per cent of the shares belong to a single owner - the Concern "Achemos grupe".
In 1998 the company invested in a free economic zone in Russia, Kaliningrad Region, Sovetsk Town, establishing a branch, manufacturing dragees and caramels. This was a successful way to enter the Russian confectionery market and to expand manufacturing.
